The universe would be destroyed! And as an environmentalist, I'm against that.

–Al Gore, Anthology of Interest I

Albert Arnold "Al" Gore, Jr. (born March 31, 1948) is the first Emperor of the Moon and rode "the mighty moon worm". He sported an almost excessively elaborate jar; not only was the base colored silver-white, but it possessed several hologram projectors, two small rockets for mobility, a pair of lasers, and was backed with the top of a cape. Gore was the author of the book Earth in the Balance and the much more popular Harry Potter and the Balance of Earth, in which he explained that the environment must be protected from global warming and dark wizards.

Gore's head was also one of the many ships in Leela's fleet during the attack on the Nude Alien Scammers[1]. He destroyed one of the solid gold Death Stars by flying into the Achilles vent, happy to have the chance to "save the world with deadly lasers instead of deadly slide shows".

Gore in the 21st century[]

Anthology of Interest I (Main Episode - The Un-Freeze of a Lifetime) - 101

Al Gore's first appearance.

Gore, along with his body, appeared in Fry's what-if scenario in which the Planet Express Crew watched a What-If Machine simulation of events had Fry not fallen into the cryogenic tube on New Year's Eve, 1999.[2] This would have led to a tear in the space-time continuum. Gore, then leader of the Vice Presidential Action Rangers, was tasked by the U.S. Constitution to prevent disruptions in the space-time continuum, as well as casting the tie-breaking vote in the Senate. After Fry caused the rip to suck everything in existence into non-existence, and with nothing but white all around them, the VPAR decided to spend the next quadrillion years playing Dungeons & Dragons.

While Al Gore, in the year 2000, was supervising the Florida ballot counting, Bender walked in and vaporized Gore's ballot box while searching for Fry. In 2012, Gore drove a hybrid taxi. Bender hired him to follow Fry's taxi, but was propelled from the vehicle by an unfortunate crash. Gore lamented losing the $100 fare, complaining that it could have bought him a single gallon of gas.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • The real-life Gore has said that Futurama is his favorite show. His daughter, Kristin Gore, was a writer for the show in its later seasons. She wrote the episode "Leela's Homeworld".
  • Gore also voiced the cartoon version of himself in the promotional video, entitled "A Terrifying Message from Al Gore" for An Inconvenient Truth, along with John DiMaggio as the voice of Bender and Billy West as the narrator.
  • He claimed to have invented the environment,[3] a reference to Gore being popularly misquoted as having said he "invented the Internet".

Trivia[]

  • Gore's reference to riding "the mighty moon worm" is a reference to Paul Atreides riding a sandworm in Dune.
  • By the 31st century, Gore's head appears on the five-hundred dollar bill.[4].
