Hail, hail Robonia, A land I didn't make up!

–Coilette

Coilette is the female alter ego of Bender briefly used in 3004 when he changed genders to participate in the fembot league of the 3004 Earth Olympics. She claimed five gold medals in the bending competition.

However, Coilette decided not to change back into a manbot, instead opting to enjoy the perks of the gender and becoming engaged to Calculon.

Eventually, Coilette faked her own death by African Hydraulic Fever, and changed back into Bender. Calculon's grief inspired him to star in the film dedicated to her memory, entitled Coilette: A Calculon Story.

In 3011, the Planet Express Crew encountered a Big Rock Alien who accidentally mixed up their genders. As a result, Bender once again became Coilette.

In "Calculon 2.0", when Calculon is seen packing his suitcase, there is a picture of Coilette taped to the top portion.

History[]

While watching the 3004 Olympic Games, Bender is devastated when he sees how powerful the Manbots are in the bending competitions, crushing his dreams of Olympic Glory. However, when the Fembot bending competition is announced, Bender sneaks in, disguised as a Fembot named "Coilette" from "Robonia." The judges don't buy that "Robonia" is a real place, but concede when Bender threatens to beat them up.

Bender, as "Coilette," goes on to win five gold medals in the Fembot bending compeition. Then, it is announced that all medalists must report for gender testing. Knowing that a gender test would blow his cover and force him to forfeit his ill-gotten medals, Bender begs Professor Farnsworth to give him a sex change operation. Farnsworth warns Bender that this is a complex and dangerous proceedure, which may be irreversible, but agrees to do it "for the proud people of Robonia."

After Farnsworth neats Bender into a new shape with a sledgehammer, drains his "testosteroil" and infuses "Femmzoil," and cuts off his antenna, Coilette reports for gender testing, passes, and officially wins the five medals.

Her newfound fame gets her an invite to Late Night with Humorbot 5.0 where she is "introduced" to Calculon. Calculon becomes enanmoured with her and invites her to dinner, which she accepts, despite the protests of her coworkers at Planet Express. Over time, Coilette becomes a trophy girlfriend for Calculon, who showers her with gifts. Coilette is waiting for Calculon to get a "new piece of arm candy" and dump her so she can change back into a manbot and hock all the stuff. To her shock, Calculon proposes to her, and she accepts.

Coilette decides to play this as a scam. She plans to marry Calculon, divorce him, take half his money and turn back into a Manbot. But she eventually finds out Calculon truly loves her, and, while she still wants to get out of the wedding, she wants to do it in a way that won't hurt or humiliate Calculon. With Leela and Fry's help, Coilette stages an overly dramatic soap opera death at their wedding. Afterwards, she gets another sex change operation and is turned back into Bender. Calculon goes on to star in a movie called Coilette: A Calculon Story in her memory.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Coilette" is a reference to François Truffaut's short film, Antoine and Colette, which is also about a one-sided love story. It's also a pun between "coils" and "Colette".
  • In the episode “Forty Percent Leadbelly” as Dr. Ben Beeler was searching for the pic of the guitar to make a copy from Bender’s file; he clicked “Main C Drive” and there only two files containing Bender’s main personal file and the penguins but Coilette’s file is nowhere to be seen. Which may explain why in the episode “Neutopia”; Bender doesn’t react when he turned into Coilette again, doesn’t use the womanly voice and when he and the other gender bend men came back from shopping and Bender said this “ OMG! Being chicks is so much fun”, it appears that he doesn’t remember being a fembot.
    • what happened to Coilette’s file it’s unknown but it is hinted that Bender did not erased her due to hinted in an early episode (Benderama) that he is too lazy and which may explain why the penguin file is still intact.
  • This is the only gender-reversed character that has appeared in more than one episode in the series.
  • In the episode Neutopia, Bender gets turned into Coilette once again but this particular Coilette is completely different from the one in episode Bend Her:
    • Her appearance has a more darker complexion; while the original Coilette has a more natural complexion.
    • This Coilette appearance is more sharper and pointier; while “BH” Coilette appearance is much more rounder.
    • The “Neutopia” Coilette still has his manbot fingers and hands and his feet are more pointy ; Coilette from “BH” while her fingers and hands are feminine and her feet are are not pointy.
    • “Neutopia” Coilette still speaks in Bender’s voice.
  • Coilette is the only female character in the show who is shown to wear an all pure white wedding dress, the color white symbolizes: purity, innocence and new beginnings.
  • The pink top and cherry red skirt that Coilette was about to wear for her dinner date, resembles the colors of both the cherry and the blossom and both have different symbolism:
    • The cherry symbolizes: sweetness, love and harmony.
    • The symbolism of the blossom are: life and death, beauty and violence. Possibly foreshadowing of Coilette’s “death” at the wedding.
      • But the blossom can also symbolize renewal and optimism.
  • Before Calculon’s proposal to Coilette, she can be seen wearing a gold cowgirl hat and light blue outfit this foreshadowing of her going to “heaven” as the gold hat resembles the sun, the blue outfit resembles the sky, the white fur coat resembles angel wings and the gold chain around her waist resembles a halo.
  • Coilette is the only fem-bot with large round eyes. As large round eyes symbolize: beauty, creativity, sensitivity and charm.
  • Many fans are upset that Coilette never got her own action figure.
  • Coilette will become the show’s fifth character (after: Fry’s parents, his brother Yancy and Seymour ) to be quote “haunting the narrative”, her death and failing to protect her will haunt Calculon since he managed to survive multiple traumatic experiences and gets resurrected twice and she hasn’t along of the fact Calculon having memories of her and missing her will affect him as well as the Olympics might be returning (due to the actual 2024 France Olympics appeared as Futurama S12 aired).
    • But her “death” will also affect the Planet Express crew as well, since they were the ones (mostly Leela and Bender) who planned Coilette’s death. Especially in a possible future episode, where Calculon will finally have a breakdown of missing her and it will make TPE crew feel terrible and guilt ridden as well.
  • Coilette along with the Planet Express ship are the only robots who do not have their names on the Wheel of Robots, since they never made a deal with the robot devil.
  • Bender is known to cheat on his love partners but for some strange reason when he turned into Coilette, he didn’t cheat on Calculon. This could’ve given Bender the opportunity to sleep with a very attractive lesbian fem-bot…but he didn’t. Wonder why?
  • Characters from early four seasons; some who did not appear in the Comedy Central series are now returning in Hulu series. It’s unknown if Coilette along with the female AI Planet Express Ship will return.
  • Calculon called Coilette turtle dove.
    • Turtle Dove symbolize: love, fidelity and perfect.
  • Coilette’s name rhymes with Juliet.
  • Coilette is so far the only female character to wear outfits that have floral pattern on.
  • Coilette is so far the only female character who wears dresses and skirts but she is the only character to wear different clothes.
  • Both Robot Santa and The Robot Devil don’t know the existence of both Coilette and the AI female Planet Express ship.
  • Coilette was the last individual to have Calculon’s remote control to his heart. It’s unknown what she did with it as been hinted that he never retrieved, after her alleged “death”.
