The city being destroyed.
First Destruction of New York City was initially thought to be the cause of an alien invasion whilst Fry was frozen. In truth, it was caused by a time-traveling Bender. The Second Middle Ages would take place after the attack.

As Fry was in Cryogenic Tube for thousands of years, supposed aliens ships were seen passing by and destroying Old New York. However, the truth was revealed in 3007, in which it turns out that Bender was hypnotized by Nudar and Fleb and Schlump sent him back in time with paradox time code to send all of Earth's riches.
Bender traveled back to 2308, where he stole the Noble Peace Prize and was chased by the Swedish Air Force towards New York. After coming under attack, he multiplies his ships and destroys the city in his escape, while laughing manically.
