Leonard Simon Nimoy (March 26, 1931 - February 27, 2015)[1] was an American actor, author, film director, singer, and photographer who achieved international fame for playing Spock in the Star Trek franchise for almost 50 years; from two pilot episodes in 1964 and 1965 to his final film performance in 2013. Originating the role of Spock on Star Trek: The Original Series, he went on to play him again on Star Trek: The Animated Series, the first six Star Trek films (of which he directed the third and fourth), and in two episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He had also guest starred as Dr. William Bell in Fringe and appeared twice in Matt Groening's other TV series, The Simpsons.

He was also known for being the very first guest star in Futurama, appearing as himself in the pilot episode and reprising the role in "Where No Fan Has Gone Before".

Nimoy passed away on February 27, 2015, at the age of 83. He passed away from complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
