However, in this episode, Mexico appears to be separated from the US by an international border, as is shown by Hermes', and Bender's, need for passports, and other paperwork.
It is not impossible that, in the roughly 10 years between this episode, and 'Raging Bender', that Mexico became independant from the USA.
