- "No! Ancient Atlanta was more than just a Delta hub. It was a vibrant metropolis, the equal of Paris or New York!"
- ―Umbriel
- "That's right, honey! Whatever you say."
- ―Fry
Umbriel is a mermaid who appeared in "The Deep South" as one of the mermaids living in the lost city of Atlanta. She has long blonde hair, a purple tail, and wears a pink bra and a choker with a shell on the front. She had a brief romance with Fry, until Fry learned how Mermaid intercourse worked, ditching her for the surface.
She cameos when Hermes Conrad travels to the voodoo shack, with her dad asking him if he had seen a Dewgong as it had ran way with Umbriel's dowry.
Trivia[]
- The name "Umbriel" comes from one of the five moons of Uranus, discovered at the same time as another moon, "Ariel". Both are named for spirits from literature (Pope's The Rape of the Lock and Shakespeare's The Tempest, respectively), but the use of the name here parallels the name of the main character from the Disney classic The Little Mermaid.
- Umbriel doesn't appear at Fry's funeral in "The Sting" (which includes most of Fry's ex-girlfriends at his funeral), nor does she appear in the ending of Into the Wild Green Yonder. Though, this is obviously because she cannot breathe above water.
